Dear John beat Avatar in the box office making 32.4 million dollars. Avatar had been number one in the box office for the last seven weeks.

Dear John is a romantic movie about a college student named Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried) who meets a guy named John Tyree (Channing Tatum.) John is a soldier who is on leave from the Army Special Forces. They fall in love with each other, but John leaves for the Army where he and Savannah being writing letters to each other.
