Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller Not Seeking a Divorce

Though their reps have admitted that Charlie Sheen and wife Brooke Mueller are having marital issues, they are still trying to make their relationship work.

"Please let us clarify this: They are not seeking a divorce nor has one been contemplated," according to a joint statement released Monday by Mueller’s attorney, Yale Galanter, and Sheen’s longtime friend and Two and a Half Men executive producer, Mark Burg.

Furthermore, "there has been no financial agreements between the parties of any sort. Stories to the contrary are false," says the statement.

"This is a difficult time and they need space to see if they can work things out or not," Yale tells PEOPLE.

Scrutiny surrounding the couple’s marriage started after a Christmastime incident in Aspen, Colo., when Sheen allegedly threatened his wife and was arrested on domestic violence charges.

Though Sheen and Mueller are currently residing apart, they are making every effort to work through this rough patch in their relationship and are putting their family – including 13 month-old twin sons Bob and Max – first.

The couple ask that their privacy be respected during this time.
